Immigration Tip (Medical Exam)

posted in: Updates | 0

Applicants for adjustment of status are required to submit Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record (“Medical Exam”), completed by a designated civil surgeon to establish that they are not inadmissible to the U.S. on public health grounds. Prior to 2002, Medical Exam was considered valid for one-year from the date of the civil surgeon’s signature. From 2002 to 2014, legacy INS/U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued annual policy memoranda extending the validity of Medical Exam through the date that the underlying adjustment of status application was adjudicated. On May 30, 2014, USCIS announced that effective June 1, 2014, Medical Exam must be submitted within in one year of completion and signature by the civil surgeon, and will be considered valid for one year after submission to USCIS.
